- 1st Anniversary of Initiative Hope: - 2003-09-01
Started in September 2003 by Mrs. Anuradha Koirala and with the kindest support from Maiti Children's Trust - UK, BONO-Direkthilfe e.V. / BONO-Direct Aid Association - Germany, Laligurans - Japan and Chance Swiss - Switzerland, "Initiative Hope has completed it's first year.
The first year was full of learning and gathering experiences and practical knowledge of Anti Retroviral therapy. The success of the project which is worth mentioning here are 2 cases of Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, where 2 babies were born negative after their mothers under went ARV Treatment. The other success achieved is the increase in the CD - 4 count, of the 7 of the girls and women which is as follows:Before ARV Treatment (September 2003) After ARV Treatment (March 2004) 12 76 88 223 144 888 149 388 151 306 156 230 176 383 177 421 180 485
Note: The 7 girls and women are the ones who are with us from the beginning of the project. Others have joined in between; therefore their 2nd CD 4 count has not been done.
At the same time we also lost 4 girls and women who had started ARV Treatment, but they were suffering from multiple diseases. The 4 girls and women Maiti Nepal lost was the biggest loss for Maiti Nepal and our supporters.
At present there are 18 girls and women (including 1 child) under going ARV Treatment.
