  • Prevention Home - 2006-10-31
    Maiti Nepal has established Prevention Homes in those areas which are high risk for trafficking. The objective of the prevention home is to empower the vulnerable girls through skill training and community awareness against trafficking.Three prevention homes are operating at Chisapani in Nuwakot (established in 1996) Hetauda in Makawanpur (established in 1997) and Bardaghat in Nawalparasi (established in 1998) districts.

    The major activities conducted at prevention home are:
    1. Shelter to potential victims
    2. Life skills training to vulnerable girls
    3. Training and empowering girls to work as social activist
    4. Community awareness campaigns against trafficking

    Residential Training:
    1. 1192 girls got residential training from these homes. The training duration was around 4-6 months. Girls were trained on skills like sewing, bakery, advance tailoring, soap making and leadership development.
    2. After completion of training 22 girls were placed in job.
    3. Prevention homes at Chisapani, Hetauda and Bardaghat successfully completed 13th, 18th and 12th batch of trainings.
    Seed Money:
    1. Maiti Nepal has provided seed money to 183 trained girls to start their own business and utilize the skills learnt at prevention homes.
    Employment
    1. 22 trained girls are working as Social Motivator, Border Surveillance Team, member and Vocational Trainer.
    2. 15 trained girls are working at 6 Village Development Committee of Makwanpur district as Maiti Nepal Volunteer. They are responsible to conduct awareness campaign against trafficking and provide information on safe migration.
