Teresa Academy came into being with support from Maiti Nepal in April 1998, with an aim of providing education to all round development for the betterment of the orphans, semi -orphans, underprivileged children, children at high risk and vulnerable children under MN's care. These children have the least chances of getting education, if they are not cared, protected and taken care of. Other than the children mentioned above, the school also provides education to the street children/rag pickers, and children of sand collectors. Childhood means more than just the time between birth and the attainment of adulthood. It refers to the state and condition of a child's life, and the quality of those years. The school has the plan of upgrading each class every year till it reaches class X.
Currently there are 381 students studying in various classes. Out of these 220 children from Maiti Nepal's Sonja child protection Home, 57 are children affected from armed conflict and 104 are day scholars.
