Soliciting the rights of restaurant employees
Small hotel and restaurant sector in Nepal has emerged as a visible intermediary supply site in the context of trafficking of children and women. Since girls are without support and protection in their workplace they are at an extremely high risk of being trafficked for commercial sexual abuse and the worst form of child labour.

After receiving reports of cases of exploitation in cabin and dance restaurants Maiti Nepal initiated soliciting for the rights of women employees. In this regard, with instigation of Maiti Nepal a monitoring committee was formed in 2003 to keep vigilance on cases of abuse and exploitation escalating in Cabin and Dance restaurant throughout Kathmandu Valley. Team was initiating to implement following facilities:
  • Availability of identity card
  • Safe and hygienic working place to be maintained inside restaurants
  • Job guarantee to be given to employees
  • child workers to be prohibited, working hours for female employees should be fixed
  • Vulgar dancing of girls in restaurants should be forbidden
  • Uniform should be provided to female employees and familiarisation visit to waitress to esteemed hotel employing waitress
