Rehabilitation Home

Maiti Nepal has established Rehabilitation Homes in Gaushala of Kathmandu (1993) and Itahari, Sunsari (Established in March 2002) district.

The Rehabilitation Home is a safe home to those who are in immediate need, and those who have been physically or psychologically scarred. This home has been able to support the physical, psychological, and educational needs of its members and provide safe temporary shelter. The key activities of the Rehabilitation Home is to provide shelter, arrange for non-formal as well as formal education, impart vocational, income generating and life skills, facilitate medical check-ups and treatment, conduct counseling and psychotherapy sessions, file cases against accused criminals, identify parents and encourage the residents to set up their own enterprises and become self-reliant. The Rehabilitation Home is also able to provide jobs to some residents.

The residents of the Rehabilitation Home include abandoned/lost children, survivors of domestic violence and rape, street children and intercepted children and women and survivors of trafficking.

Rehabilitation Home is managed by Maiti Nepal case management system. Case Management is an operational system by which each child/woman is ensured individual care, protection and reintegration according to the assessed needs of the child/woman and their expressed wishes.

Another important regular feature of the Rehabilitation Home is to initiate social reintegration approach to residents of rehabilitation home. Social reintegration approach is accompanied by adequate social preparation and outreach support in order to address the significant social constraints that survivors may face returning to community and society.
