Maiti Nepal celebrated 99th International Women's day with senior women citizens

To celebrate the 99th International Women's day Maiti Nepal organised a special programme on 6th March 2009 at an old age home located at Pashupati, Gaushala.  To entertain the senior citizens staying there, cultural shows were organized on the occasion.

Nepali society embraces the biting reality of rejection of old aged women and men from their family and society. Men and women in their later ages feel frustrated, alienated and agonized when they live far from family and are deprived of the love of  near and dear ones. In Nepal, the state has not provided adequate social security to the senior citizens.

Owing to these factors, Maiti Nepal organized this programme in order to pay respect to the senior citizens as an attempt to restore their confidence, energy, expectations and affinity towards life which the adult citizens seem to be losing at their age.

After the cultural show, lunch was provided to 250 men and women residing at the old age home.

The overall programme made them delighted and signs of excitement appeared in their wrinkled cheeks. They danced and sang with us and blessed us for what we did for them . At the same time, we became happy that we our small effort brought a great change in their life for the day .
