Human Trafficker sentenced 20 years of vigorous imprisonment !!!

Kathmandu District Court sentenced Kale Damai belonging to Sindhupalchowk District, Shikharpur-7 with 20 years of imprisonment; two hundred thousand rupees (2 lakhs) fine ; and one hundred thousand rupees( 1 lakh) compensation, on February 11, 2009. Probably ,it is the first verdict ever given by a court in Nepal with such a huge sentence.
The criminal had trafficked Sunita ( name changed) of Udaypur District, from Kathmandu through Kakarbhitta border  on September 15,2007 and sold her in the Redlight Area of Khidarpur, Kolkota . She was later rescued by the joint effort of Office of Nepalese Consulate General, Kolkota and Maiti Nepal.

After the girl was rescued, she was transferred to Maiti Nepal Birgunj and was finally brought to Maiti Nepal head office Kathmandu. Maiti Nepal then wasted no time and used all the mechanisms in searching the trafficker. FIR was filed in the police and the trafficker was finally caught. The survivor was provided special assistance and support from Maiti Nepal.

During court proceedings, the trafficker had attempted to influence the survivor financially and even persuaded her to file FIR claiming that she was never trafficked . But reality and truth achieved the victory and eventually Kale Damai was convicted guilty.
