  • Girls produced deep sigh of relief on reaching Maiti Nepal !!! - 2008-08-27

Seven tender girls at the age of 12 to 18, who were rescued from heart rending exploitative conditions in India, reached Kathmandu on 26/08/008. Upon the arrival in Maiti Nepal, tears trickled from their eyes. This could probably be the symbol of liberation from the torturous sufferings they had undergone in India.
The girls had been trafficked to India by their own close relatives- parents, in-laws, and husband.
Two of the girls had been sold in the brothel, while five of them were exploited in capacity as a domestic helper. One of the five girls had previously been recruited in an armed group. When she was compelled to slay a man, she chose to go to India rather than be a criminal.

After passing four horrible years in India, the girls were rescued during police raid and were handed over to Nepalese Embassy in India. Nepalese Embassy further gave the responsibility to Maiti India, who deported the girls to Maiti Nepal.
While undertaking the counseling session, some girls revealed the interest to attend the school. One of the girls is likely to be re-integrated back home as her family has been already identified
