- Appeal to save Dolma Sherpa - 2008-03-28
Dolma sherpa, a Nepali woman from Sindupalchowk, who is currently in Kuwait jail, is undergoing capital punishment for the murder of a filipino maid.Since then MAITI NEPAL and other NGOs (LAC, INHURED, NNAGT, Paurakhi, Population watch, Hurfon, HR Home, Youth Action Nepal, INWOLOG, FWLD, NIDS, UNIFEM , INSEC , NIYOK, National Human Rights Foundation, National networkof indegineous women, FWLD, Pro Public, Didi Bahini, Advocacy forum, Nepal Sherpa Organisation Sindhupalchowk and others) formed a 'Save Dolma campaign' and Maiti Nepal remained as its secretariat.
The campaign took initiatives to save her and formed a pressure body so that something substantial could be done from the government side. In order to employ a defence lawyer for Dolma, some 35 thousand US$ is needed and to pay back the blood money to the family of Philipino some 75 thousand US$ is needed which cannot be funded by the NGOs themselves only.Because of the pressure built up by pro-women NGOs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, under the directives of the prime minister, issued 4 hundred thousand rupees as seed money and was later deposited in the joint account opened in Nepal Investment Bank,Durbar Marga.Since then rescue money has been getting deposited in the account from various organisations,NGOs,NRN and individuals inside and outside the country.

Besides on humble request of Save Dolma Campaign ,Australian Nepalese Society and Nepalese From USA have also contributed to the account opened in Alrajhi Bank Riyad, for the noble cause.Donors are requested to use the foreign bank as no tax is levied there.Meanwhile first Nepali counseller of Britain Mr. Dhana Gurung has also expressed firm committment to collect money from Nepalese community there.We are very grateful to those all over the globe who are campaigning for money collection at present.
Request Dolma Sherpa is a Nepali woman. Letting her die in an alien soil under charges always inhibits our morale.So everybody should help rescuing her back to Nepal and contribute in this campaign. Its a humble request to all.
