  • Maiti Nepal's initiatives- Improving livelihood through positive professional transformation !! - 2009-11-24

    With the objective of improving the livelihood through a changed initiative Maiti Nepal organized a programme ?handing over of micro-credit revolving funds? to 15 girls/women working in dance/ cabin restaurants on 23rd November 2009 at Maiti Nepal premises.

     The programme was chaired by Mr. Thaneshwor Devkota, Director General of Foreign Employment Promotion Board. Approximately, 20 representatives of various organizations were present in the programme.

     Among the 15 girls/women, 5 of them were provided with sewing machine and certificate whereas 10 of them were provided with micro-credit loan of NRs. 1,00,000. The programme was conducted for about one hour.

     Three girls/ women expressed their view on receiving the support. One of them narrated on how she was compelled to serve as a dancer in the dance restaurant and how she has now been able to lead a good life with the support of Maiti Nepal.

    They expressed ?we are very lucky that we have received the support of Maiti Nepal and have got a chance to start a new life, during our stay here, we have learnt a lot of things and wish to apply it in our own villages.?

     Mr. Thaneshwor Devkota appraised the work that Maiti Nepal has been carrying out and marked his camaraderie to fight against exploitation of children and women.
