- Eight girls liberated from horrible exploitation of massage Parlors in Kathmandu !!! - 2009-10-13
Eight girls who were rescued from the horrendous circumstances of masssage parlors were rescued by Hanuman Dhoka Metropolitan Range police referred to Maiti Nepal on 8th October, 2009. They were rescued from various massage parlors namely ? Everest Massage Parlor, Nirvana Massage Parlor, Jomsom Massage Parlor and Ayurvedic Massage Parlor, located at Thamel which is famous tourist area in Nepal. These spots are notoriously known as the places of sex business in the guise of massage parlors where minor girls are compelled to disown the rights over their own body.
At present the rescued girls are at the rehabilitation home of Maiti Nepal. They are receiving psychosocial counseling and we are encouraging them for harnessing alternative livelihood opportunities.. We have offered various life skills training to the girls which will help them to be economically sustainable and socially dignified . Maiti Nepal motivates such girls to quit their profession and adopt another one which is socially validated and acceptable.
Maiti Nepal organized a press conference on 11th October, 2009 to draw public and government attention to the increasing number of innocent minor girls migrating to the capital city, Kathmandu in search of opportunities .The objective was to save young girls from being an easy prey to sex slavery and exploitation.Out of the eight girls, three of them have been reintegrated with their family members. Maiti Nepal feels happy that most of them have committed to take up a new profession and we will put on every efforts to translate their commitments into a sweet reality .
