16th Death Anniversary of Sonja Kill
8th July, 2009On the 16th Death Anniversary of Sonja Kill, Maiti Nepal held a minute of mourning session. Maiti Nepal family including the staff members, teachers, children and women remembered Sonja Kill on this day. Everyone prayed for her soul to rest in peace.
Mrs. Sumitra Shrestha- Shelter In charge began the function with a short speech followed by Khada and garland presentation by Mr. Sabin Gurung- Senior Program Officer. All the staff members, children and women placed flowers in Sonja Kill's Photograph. To conclude the function, Mr. Hasta Khadka- Finance Officer lighted candles in her memorial.
Everyone especially children became very emotional during the function. It became very difficult to break the silence after a minute of mourning in the memory of Sonja Kill. Children also decorated the arena with paintings which read:-
"ON THIS DAY, WE ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU AND PRAY FOR YOUR SOUL TO REST IN PEACE"
Likewise, the residents of Hospice, Gokarna also held a mourning session remembering our beloved Sonja Kill. Staff members from the head office, Mr. Sabin Gurung, Mrs. Sumitra Shrestha, , Mr. Madan Kumar Chaulagain Mr. Achyut Nepal and Mr. Keshav Mandal visited Hospice, Gokarna. They thanked Mr. and Mrs. Kill for their unconditional support. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Kill without whom they would have been homeless.
They also said that although they never got an opportunity to meet Sonja, the place that she holds in their heart would always remain void without her memories.
A blood donation programme was also organized on that day in the memory of Sonja Kill. Thirty eight people including staff of Maiti Nepal and other donors donated their blood. Maiti Nepal extends its sincere gratitude to all the donors for their humanitarian gesture.
On 8th July every year, Maiti Nepal mourns for the untimely demise of Sonja Kill. This day is marked as a tragic day in the calendar of Maiti Nepal.
