- Maiti Nepal organizes awareness programs - 2009-06-26
Maiti Nepal organized two awareness programs against human trafficking in two peripheral places of Kathmandu district on 25 june, 2009. The outskirts of Kathmandu valley is very notorious dwelling place of traffickers who belong to the neighboring districts.Awareness programs were organized in Gram Sewa higher secondary school of Dharmasthali VDC and Milan Dharmasthali school Kabresthali VDC of Kathmandu valley .These program were organized in the encouraging presence of the students, teachers, community women groups, and local leaders.
The program commenced with sharing of information about Maiti Nepal and its initiatives. To add extra flavour to the program, girls and women of Maiti Nepal presented awareness songs and dances. Local students, teachers and youths who presented poems, songs and shared opinions made the program more eventful .They emphasized that awareness building is the best way to combat human trafficking and such programmes should be frequently held.
The core of the program, the drama, was immensely influencial. The audience could not help crying at the overwhelming tragedy demonstrated in the drama.
During the program, local people shared missing reports of their daughters and sisters. They expressed their eagerness to visit Maiti Nepal in order to make complaints of gender violence prevailing in their family and community.
The program was indeed effective.
