- Maiti Nepal provides alternative livelihood opportunities to ex. dance restaurants girls!!! - 2009-04-22
Maiti Nepal provided mobile food carts to two dance restaurant girls on April 21, 2009. Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka had brought them to Maiti Nepal for interim shelter and immediate relief along with nine other similar survivors. They were also extended seed money to start the business. The superintendent of police Mr. Nawaraj Silwal was present on the occasion.
During their stay at Maiti Nepal's shelter , the girls( both of them married) had said , they didn't have any other means of subsistence and were compelled to tolerate various forms of exploitation in the dance restaurants. They said, they always wanted to pursue a business which is decent and socially validated.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Silwal said that being independent by doing something good is a matter of pride and glory itself. He also wished them best of luck.
Mr. Bishworam Khadka,Executive Director of Maiti Nepal advised the girls to work hard so that they can set an example to others.
Ms. Anuradha Koirala, Chairperson of Maiti Nepal congratulated the girls for their positive professional transformation and even expressed commitment to help them for the further diversification of their business .
The girls were encouraged and delighted. The smiles on their lips and the charm in their eyes were revealing their happiness and the acceptance they will get in the society afterwards.
