    Maiti Nepal, dedicated to fight against girl trafficking and child abuse celebrated its 11th anniversary with various programs.

    The anniversary celebration was postponed by a day, as it was Nepal Bandh on Chaitra 14. Honorable Minister for Physicla and Planning Works Mr. Buddhi Man Tamang graced the ceremony with his presence as the chief guest whereas government officers, representatives of NGOs and INGOs, donor agencies, diplomats, artistes and wellwishers of Maiti Nepal attended the program. The whole affair was spent in a jovial mood as it consisted of Dohori competition, Essay competition and various cultural and creative activities along with speeches. Chief Guest Honorable minister, on that occasion appreciated the role played by Maiti Nepal in the field of social service. He further said that Maiti Nepal has been palying as an exemplary role for other various organizations in the country. He also assured of his cooperation for the noble cause. Chairperson of Maiti Nepal Anuradha Koirala recalled the challenges and hardship that the organization had faced during the past eleven years. She further stressed upon the difficulties Maiti Nepal would face in the coming days.

    Challenges should be faced with courage. We should not expect support from donors all the time. Organization should be self- reliant. We have been trying to run Maiti Nepal from our own resources and revenues. She further stated.

    General Secretary Bishwa Ram Khadka said that Maiti Nepal’s role against girl trafficking and child abuse started 11 years back, continued. He was confident that it would bring positive result. He further stated that the mission was also for their rights, without which they could not be made self-dependent and nor could it be provided with equal opportunities. He expressed his concern about a lot of women and children who were leading perilous life for various reasons. He concluded, “Service and sympathy might be of immediate relief but for the long term solution, their rights have to be ascertained along with their placement and acceptance in society.

    Dhaulagiri Group of Kathmandu won the Dohori competition. Akriti Pandey of Brilliant Education Academy bagged the first prize of Rs. 2000 cash and certificate on a high school level essay competition on the topic of students and drugs. Chairperson of Maiti Nepal Anuradha Koirala and Chief Guest Tamang gave away the cash prize and certificate to the winners.
