Sapana(name changed) of Nuwakot district had been held captive in Tihar Jail(India) on charges of Passport Tampering while attempting to go abroad via India in pretext of job. She was rescued through Maiti India after series of tireless efforts by Maiti Nepal. She reached Maiti Nepal on 16-03-2009. Likewise, 7 children and women were rescued by Rescue Foundation(Mumbai) from various circumstances and were handed over to Bhairahawa Transit Home of Maiti Nepal. They were brought to Maiti Nepal head office at Kathmandu on 18-03-2009. Three of them are minors.

Maiti Nepal rescued four Bhutanese refugees, 3 women and a man ( 19 to 22 years of age) from Motihari, state of Bihar,India. A trafficker named Bhaktinath Koirala had trafficked them to Darapa Thana Lohadiya village in Motihari, Bihar from Bhutanese refugee camp Sanischare of Jhapa,Nepal in pretext of providing job in a private school in Birgunj. The man got them enrolled in a private school in Bihar as teachers.

This year the prize will be awarded for the tenth time. The 13 prize candidates include Maiti Nepal, saviour of child sex slaves Somaly Mam from Cambodia, Nelson Mandela and murdered carpet factory slave Iqbal Masih. Millions of children will participate in this year's Global Vote to decide who will be trhe Decade Child Rights Hero. On the 20 th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, 20 November,the children will reveal their chosen prize laureate.
